Sonia Butler of Richmond & Butler provides independent valuations of jewellery for insurance and probate purposes, with a particular specialism in antique, vintage and secondhand pieces.  Visits are made to clients at their home, office, bank or other preferred venue for discretion whilst examining, photographing and taking details of the jewellery. From point of first contact, communication is key to ensuring that clients’ needs are met and that the valuation process is understood. After the on-site examination, the items and their values are methodically researched and then two copies of the bound presentation document with images are sent by post to the client.

Sonia started out in the jewellery business over 20 years ago at Phillips Auctioneers, moving on to work for an independent valuer in the City of London and since 2003 has been with a world-renown antique jewellers and silversmiths, working part-time in recent years to concentrate on freelance valuations. Qualified with gem and diamond diplomas (FGA, DGA) from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, and with the Certificate of Appraisal Theory from the Institute of Registered Valuers, Sonia gained membership to the IRV and now is proud to be a member of the JVA. 

As well as jewellery, antique silver and gold objects, such as snuff boxes, can also be appraised.
